Human-Machine Teaming, Redefining UAVs Operations
Video-Enabled Real-Time Drone Operations in 6G (VERDO-6G) is a research initiative under the EU’s Eureka Celtic-Next Cluster. As UAV operations are evolving fast – with Vision AI, Autonomy, Swarming, and Collaborative Human Visual Oversight – VERDO-6G is the testbed for cutting-edge tech, next-gen networks, and new operational doctrines in Public Safety and Critical Infrastructures.

About the
Project
13.10.2023: VERDO-6G (C2023/1-17), ‘Video Enabled Real-time Drone Operations in 6G’ was approved and received the label in full from the EU Celtic-Next Cluster office. With a budget of just under 5 M €, the project runs for 40 months minimum.
HMT Empowered with AI & Next-Gen Video Networking Capabilities
VERDO-6G partners share a common vision: the transformative impact of UAVs on public safety and critical infrastructure surveillance is only just beginning.
As Vision AI, UAV autonomy, swarming, and mobile network capabilities evolve, entirely new use cases will emerge. Validating the approaches will demand complex technology integration, the definition of new operational methodologies, and rigorous field testing. Technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and public acceptance will all be critical factors.
The project will initially focus on two research areas:
-
Leveraging AI within network infrastructure to optimize the management and use of massive volumes of real-time visual data.
-
Enabling advanced Human-Machine Teaming, with a focus on complex decision-making and real-time visual collaboration between operators, remote experts, and autonomous systems.
Supporting large volumes of video streams, visual data, and real-time collaboration is a flagship use case that showcases the full potential of 6G networks.
With 8K video, immersive VR, ultra-high data rates, sub-millisecond latency, native AI integration, 3D network coverage, enhanced security, and deep sensor fusion, 6G will redefine the way UAV operations are conducted.
Eyeson and the VERDO-6G partners are proud to collaborate on these critical innovations in support of European technological leadership, public safety and resilience.
Real-life Use Cases
for Video-Enabled
Drone Operations
The project will focus on real-life use cases for video-enabled drone operations with 2 use cases being included from the start:
- First responder and public safety applications
- Semi-autonomous industrial and infrastructure inspection
Real users from both use cases will be included in the evaluation and verification of prototypes.

Medical emergency teams will leverage 6G to deliver faster, more precise, and more coordinated urgent care.

6G will empower public safety teams with real-time intelligence, ultra-reliable connectivity, and seamless coordination across agencies—enabling faster, smarter responses when every second counts.

With 6G, critical infrastructure surveillance gains real-time visibility, AI-driven analysis, and resilient connectivity enhancing protection of essential systems.

6G will equip firefighters with real-time situational awareness, drone-assisted visuals, and seamless communication—even in harsh, high-risk environments—enabling faster, safer, and more coordinated emergency response.
The Project Consortium
The VERDO-6G project includes 12 partners from 6 countries, contributing with complementary experiences, skills and technologies:

Project Initiator and Coordinator. Eyeson is a leading innovator in Video Networking Technologies. Eyeson Technology integrates Multiple Interactive Video streams, Audio streams, Metadata, Systems screens into a single interactive, resilient stream. This composed multiparty stream is totally and dynamically programmable via a custom layout APIs. The solution connects with third party Vision AI or NLP models to manage the composed stream. The most relevant information is automatically prioritized. Responders and operators collaborate effectively in a Virtual Situation Room.

TSK is a leading business group in engineering development and the supply of facilities founded in 1986. Specialised in Big Data and AI TSK has completed several major international R&D projects. TSK will focus on video processing with AI and on developing a prototype system for using VR and AR to use and control drones.

ElSight delivers absolute connection confidence for drones and other unmanned systems, using AI to combine various channels, including satellite and radio, into an optimized virtual connection. Elsight's contribution to the project was to collect relevant information throughout the meeting and display it on the screen in real time. It will also develop a tool to provide short-term predictions regarding the reception and connection quality.

Helix provides pioneering antenna-based solutions and systems for resilient, precision PNT & satellite communications. Helix will focus on the localization of drones and optimized communication in difficult environments.

DroneMajor Group is a leading market analyst and consultant for drone use-cases and applications. DroneMajor will contribute by making a consultative assessment of the likely use cases that are realised with the advancement of the technology and solution, and associated market places.

Beyond Vision focuses on industrial drones for professional and industrial applications, both multirotor and VTOL, and respective accessories for a multitude of customized solutions, including AI services. In Verdo-6G we plan to help showcase the advantages of the usage of the powerful drone/6G combination and we feel that we are in a good position to do so as we were one of the first to integrate 5G on our drones natively.

Supporting Partner: Deutsche Telekom AG's Open Telekom Cloud is an infrastructure-as-a-service offering from the public cloud. It is based on open-source OpenStack technology and is operated in accordance with GDPR data protection standards. Open Telekom Cloud (OTC) operates as an IaaS provider in the context of the project. As a cloud-based infrastructure, all ongoing activities will be rolled out on it.
