COVID-19 has left offices empty and homes full. Companies are transitioning to digital tools, and internet usage has gone up tremendously. A recent study found that the average connection speed (LTE, DSL, and cable network) in Austria decreased by 10.87 percent last week. The situation has also been analyzed in a recent computerworld editorial. The EU has taken action and called on streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube to limit their services to prevent broadband networks from crashing.

The COVID-19 is forcing us to use the internet differently

But if there is a silver lining in this crisis,  it is that the virus is forcing us to use the internet the way it was meant to be used — to stay connected,  share information and resources, and come up with collective solutions to urgent problems. Not every business meeting needs to be in person. Many people are realizing that it is not always necessary to meet physically. Sometimes it makes more sense to meet virtually, no matter if it’s just a one-on-one client call or a conference including dozens of colleagues from different departments in different locations.
